Thompson Sustainable Homes defines a new benchmark with intelligent, eco-friendly design.
The 10 Star BERS energy rated display home at Peregian Springs is a great example of this.
TEMPERATURE
Intelligent orientation and treatments minimise heat absorption for cooler living in summer and warmer living in winter.
- Rooms within the home are carefully located for both liveability and orientated to limit heat absorption.
- Superior insulation lines the roof and wall, reducing heat transfer by up to 70%.
- Exterior is painted in light designer colours to minimise heat absorption.
FRESH AIR AND NATURAL LIGHT
Intelligent design naturally lights your home while cross ventilation offers energy efficient comfort.
- Glazing is limited to all sides, except the north to allow cross ventilation and natural lighting.
- Open plan design allows daylight to reach 100% of living spaces.
- Natural, non-toxic materials prevent polluting interior air i.e. zero formaldehyde in cabinetry and joinery products.
- Low VOC painting used on internal and external surfaces.
LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT CONSTRUCTION
Increase efficiency in project management and careful selection of materials dramatically reduces the carbon footprint left by building your new home.
- Use of products that contain recycled materials.
- Minimisation of waste and landfill.
- Use of light weight construction materials, minimising required manpower and carbon footprint.
- Better project management ensures fewer deliveries and associated transport overheads, minimising unnecessary fossil fuel consumption.
- Only ‘Chain of Custody’ certified timber used in our homes which means it has been harvested from renewable Australian Forests.
OPTIONAL INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS
- Earth Wool is a new, advanced generation of super soft and highly sustainable glass wool. It is thermally efficient and cost effective in saving energy and providing increased comfort in buildings.
- Green Concrete is made from crushed, recycled concrete for aggregate, fly ash waster (pozzolan) from coal mills and other industrial by-products. No toxic chemicals are used in its production which is very important as cement production accounts for 5% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.
- Green Plaster Board is a low VOC product that is made from naturally occurring Australian Gypsum and is 100% recyclable.
- Solar PV System is a photovoltaic system which uses solar cells to convert light into electricity.
- Natural Cooling Exhaust Fan made by Breeze Power is an innovative product that draws cool, fresh breezes in through windows, while expelling hot, stale air through eave or gable vents. This system costs up to 80% less than air conditioning to run.
- Sustainable Composite Decking is a product that looks like timber but is made from recycled HDPE (old milk bottles), rice husks and recycled hardwood timber to form what is known as a WPC (Wood Plastic Composite).
- Electricity Key Tag which when removed, shuts down power to all standby power outlets to precent wasted electricity. All necessary power outlets such as the fridge, remain running as needed.
- Rainwater system that is fully integrated with your home.
- Installation of solar hot water system which is typically the second largest energy consumer in your home.
- Sensor system to control excess use of electricity.
- Green star rated tap fittings to minimize daily water usage.
- Greywater system that reuses household wastewater that has not come into contact with toilet waste. Greywater is used for garden irrigation to conserve water.
